Boreal River Rescue
The Open Recertification course is open to graduates of all wilderness medical training courses of 64 hours or longer with a current Wilderness First Responder certification. Successful graduates of this course will receive Wilderness Medical Associates’ Wilderness First Responder, Anaphylaxis, and BLS/Healthcare Provider-level CPR certifications. WMA WEMT graduates with a current EMT-B or Paramedic certificate may also recertify the wilderness portion of their WEMT with this course.
**If you are using this course to recertify a WMA WEMT if is your responsibility to let the sponsor know when registering, and to inform the instructor on the first day of class.**
Pick-up & Drop-off:
You can get picked-up and dropped-off at the Ottawa airport, train, or bus station or anywhere downtown for 19 CAD each way.
Pick-ups are before 6pm the day before your course. Drop-offs are the evening that your course ends.
Room and Board:
Option A - Stay on-site in a comfortable shared lodging for 19 CAD/night.
Enjoy the fully equipped kitchen, spacious bedrooms, WIFI, library, fireplace, cozy common areas, and easy access to surrounding wilderness.
Option B - Commute from Ottawa/Gatineau (30 minutes)
Option C - Book a private room at a hotel or B&B in the charming village of Wakefield, 7km/4.5miles from the course location.
Bring groceries to prepare your own meals in the fully equipped kitchen.
Boreal River supplies coffee and tea.
There are grocery stores, restaurants, cafés, and bakeries a short drive away in Wakefield.
Payment and Fee Policies
Our classroom is in a cozy retreat centre on 75 acres of wilderness bordering Gatineau Park. This location is 40km/25miles from downtown Ottawa.
The course site is minutes from the charming riverside village of Wakefield, known for its restaurants, bakeries, inns, and live music venues. Great access to the Gatineau hills and park for world class biking, hiking, and cross country skiing.
