Doug is a Grandfather of four, and a retired high school biology teacher and college outing program director. He has 40 years in fire service (assist chief), as well as 30 years in EMS (TN Advanced EMT, WEMT). Doug paddles and sails long distance races (won and placed second in the WaterTribe Everglades Challenge — 300 miles — in a sailing canoe). He does some freelance writing for boating magazines and helped edit the Wilderness and Rescue Medicine book (because I’m so picky about grammar!). Doug also builds wooden boats and volunteers in land conservation, education, and humanitarian groups. Doug started teaching for WMA because he likes their approach to learning.
